Radical Islam, The Revolutionary Left, and Ken Livingstone

Posted by Michael Mosbacher

As I have discussed previously, Ken Livingstone is planning to support the European Social Forum - a vast pan-European anti-capitalist jamboree - in London this October both organisationally and with 250,000 of London taxpayers' money. Organisations involved in co-ordinating the European Social Forum include CND, and organisations of the revolutionary left such as: Globalise Resistance - a group widely seen as a front for the Socialist Workers Party; the Communist Party of Great Britain; Workers Power; and Socialist Resistance. According to The Times, Ken Livingstone has now invited the radical Islamist leader Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi back to London to speak at the Forum. As The Times records on Sheikh al-Qaradawi's current visit to London:

Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London, yesterday issued a public invitation to a controversial Muslim cleric to return to Britain later this year. Mr Livingstone embraced Yusuf al-Qaradawi warmly as he shared a platform with him at City Hall for the second time in a week. Dr al-Qaradawi, who defends Palestinian suicide bombers as martyrs, condemns homosexuality and advocates wife-beating, was greeted with shouts of Allahu akbar (God is greatest) as he arrived at the Pro-Hijab conference.

If Sheikh al-Qaradawi does attend the European Social Forum he will be rubbing shoulders with many representatives of the revolutionary left. Who would have thought that much of the British revolutionary left would make common cause with a representative of extreme reaction.

No suprise at all really. The Respect coalition in the Euro elections (they won the constituency of Tower Hamlets) people like Galloway, it is all part of the lefts visceral anti-americanism/britishness, my enemy's enemy is my freind. A tactical ratherthan strategic alliance that will end in tears.

'Useful idiots' was, if I recall correctly, Stalin's term for them.

The only people who think they are allied with the Islamofascists are the idiots themselves.
