Gordon the Neo Con
In between the Brown (Cherie) Blair wars one thing that has gone unnoticed in recent days is Mr Brown's neo-con view of the world. In an interview with Radio 4, Mr Brown was resolute on the war against terror, strong in his support for Israel and fulsome in his praise for President Bush. These remarks followed a speech Mr Brown made in the summer in which the Chancellor made clear that he would not go soft on the war in Iraq or the fight against Islamism. For those old Labourites who are hoping Prime Minister Brown will adopt Liberal Democrat Foreign Policy, they are likely to be sorely disappointed. Perhaps that is why some of them are now backing no hoper John McDonnell for the Labour leadership.

The dynamics following the Brown takeover have already been predicted by some political scientists.
Blair has been facing terrible rebellions from Labourites in the past few years, more than anyone of his party ever before. The rebellion Could have been even worse, were it not for the Brownites convincing others to hold it, because of the Brown takeover on the horizon.
When Brown finally will step to the fore, there will be a honeymoon that will last several months. But when everyone suddenly realises (and this will be a 'sudden' turnaround in media hysteria) that he is not ushering in some socialist utopia, that is as much an atlanticist and 'neocon' as Blair (though not domestically), the rebellion against Brown from Labour will be even worse than the rebellion against Blair has been!

Posted by: James Paterson at September 27, 2006 01:42 PMBrown a neo-con, of course! Just take a look at his welfare state for the rich policies - state funding for the arms trade and lucrative corporate subsidies via PFI and privatisation, all this along with fiscal prudence and free market discipline for the rest of us. Oh, and of course, support for violent intervention abroad - funded by the public, again. Gordon Brown, Corporate Whore.
