Just what is it with Arabist Tories and the Nazis?

Posted by Watlington

Yet again another Arabist Tory MP Andrew Turner, speaking in a Commons debate, has chosen to liken Israeli action in Lebanon to that of the Nazis in World War II. Turner's remarks followed a similar and disgusting effort by Sir Peter Tapsell before the summer. Mr Turner is understood to have been rapped on the knuckles by the Conservative foreign affairs team who are furious that the bridge building between the Jewish community and the Leadership has been hindered by Mr Turner's remarks. Following William Hague's "disproportionate" comments during the Lebanon war, the Tory leadership - under pressure from a wide variety of sources, including the influential lobby Conservative Friends of Israel - have gone out of their way to stress that they are still supporters and friends of the Jewish State. It is understood that David Cameron, Party Chairman Francis Maude and Liam Fox pledged strong support to Israel at a CFI fringe at the party conference, apparently attended by hundreds of party activists.

Although the party at large and most Tory MPs have a strong allegiance to Israel, there remains a small but substantial minority of Arabists who display a similar disdain for the United States. As their influence diminishes, they have become even more vocal, hence the Nazi slur to generate headlines. It is sad that a senior respected MP such as Andrew Turner should choose to stoop to this level of debate.

"Just what is it with Arabist Tories and the Nazis?"

Just what is it? Well, to be blunt, these are actually the type of Tories who would have been sucking up to the Nazis in the 1930s. Anyone who is half awake knows what the "new Nazism" is. But here, in any case, is an interesting essay on the subject by the inimitable Ibn Warraq:

It's as well to remember that some of the forces behind this have very deep pockets filled with petrodollars and have bought good PR and influence in many places - not least the "Conservative" Party. And "Nazi" is always a good slur - even from people backing states that act in accordance with the outlook laid out there by Ibn Warraq.

I get the impression that most of these Arabists, Conservative or Labour, “like” the Arabs because they themselves hate the Jews. With friends like that, do the Arabs really need enemies?

I read the essay by Ibn Warraq. He says:

While Higher Biblical Criticism, developed by great thinkers such Spinoza, and further elaborated in Germany in the 19th Century

This “Higher Biblical Criticism” has rotted the moral fibre of Europe, which is why we are all like one big wet lettuce when confronted with situations like Bosnia or Darfur. And Bush’s axis of evil have this in common: they have/had all taken on board the kind of Marxian rhetoric which justifies any atrocity in the name of revolution.
