David Davis speaks out on Radical Islam

Posted by Watlington

After a time when it seemed that the Tories were saying little about Islamic extremism, David Davis has published a remarkable article in today's Sunday Telegraph.

In the article Mr Davis urges Muslims in the UK to tear down the walls and suggests they have imposed voluntary apartheid on themselves.

Mr Davis writes:

At its very least, there is a growing feeling that the Muslim community is excessively sensitive to criticism, unwilling to engage in substantive debate. Much worse is the feeling of some Muslim leaders that as a community they should be protected from criticism, argument, parody, satire and all the other challenges that happen in a society that has free speech as its highest value.
Of course Mr Davis is correct and it is a tribute to the Shadow Home Secretary's courage that he has been prepared to cut through the morass of political correctness and "repositioning" of the Conservative Party to ensure that the truth is heard.

Mr Davis is rapidly becoming a remarkable Shadow Home Secretary. In recent days he has talked tough on prisons and dealing with re-offenders on early release. Conservatives are lucky that in David Davis they have a man of formidable intellect and determination - and someone not afraid to stand up for what is right - whatever the political fallout. Let's see what MPAC and the MCB say about this one.
