Restaurant Review: Leon

Posted by Watlington

Review Two: Leon
12 Ludgate Circus, London, EC4
020 7489 1580

This cafe/restaurant is simply Cameron Heaven as the menu abounds with smoothies and organic food. On the day Watlington arrived to sample Leon's delicacies, there were no smoothies on the menu as the yoghurt had run out. Given that Smoothies are an integral part to Leon's attraction, it was a bit like arriving at Starbucks and being told that the coffee beans hadn't been delivered.

Nevertheless, despite this hiccup, Leon is truly a magnificent place. It is healthy eating without being too PC. Cameronism without too many Notting Hill billies. The menu contains tasty items like organic bacon and eggs, thick soups alongside an interesting wine and beverage list.

Being early morning, cold, wet and flu ridden, Watlington and his companion sampled the hot organic oat porridge with blackcurrant and honey - truly delicious. One had a warm feeling of Goldilocks and the three bears, particularly since the porridge was eaten from delightful long wooden tables. The Cafe Latte that accompanied the porridge was strong and well made and served in a giant cup. Leon also serves the most wonderful flapjacks that are free from sugar, low on carbs and also organic. All the taste without the calories as Ann Widdecombe might say were she still doing Celebrity Fit Club.

Leon is on the corner of Ludgate Circus and Fleet Street, a stone's throw from St Paul's Cathedral. It caters for that most un-pc brigade, the lads and ladettes who work in the City, yet it ensures that they are well fed with nourishing and wholemeal food. There are some other Leon premises dotted around central London, including Carnaby Street. A place you must go to. The yoghurt delivery might have even arrived by the time you turn up.
