The Tories are playing with fire

Posted by Watlington

On the face of it Conservative calls for an inquiry into the conduct of the Iraq War - after the troops have left - is perfectly justifiable. Nevertheless, they will be judged by the company they keep. If Conservatives march into the voting lobby with the key anti US/anti war parties like the Lib Dems and SNP, they will give a massive boost to the leftist position on Iraq. Radical Islamists everywhere will be celebrating. The truth is that the Lib Dem/SNP demand for an inquiry is merely another attempt to discredit the Iraq war, rather than a genuine attempt to build a viable future for that country post Saddam Hussein. The Conservative desire to ride with public opinion over Iraq and gain short term electoral advantage should take second place to doing what is right.

UPDATE: Amazingly Labour rebels were few so the Opposition Motion was lost.
