Borat: A Disgusting Film
Borat really is a disgusting film. Watlington went to see it for some laughs, wondering what all the fuss was about. Having sat through it, funny jokes are few and far between. You can understand why the Kazakhs - notably a proud people - feel insulted. You can see why taking a pot shot at Kazakhstan is an easy target: It is a country about which people know little - just imagine if he had done Jamaica or Pakistan. Not content with humiliating the Kazakhs, the film is incredibly insulting to fundamentalist Christians and Texan type rodeo goers. In fact the United States comes in for almost as much stick as Kazakhstan. Before any one suggests a sense of humour failure, watch the film - most of the jokes are predictable and the story line is hackneyed. Crocodile Dundee did it much better some years ago. The film also makes light of rape as something to laugh about. This also comes over as crass and unthinking.
This is a poor man's version of a Carry On film - in fact they were much better and much funnier. It causes needless insult to millions of people and is the kind of film that encourages all that is worst about our dumbed down culture. Sacha Baron Cohen should be ashamed of himself.

Watlington, in response to your above comments:
I agree some people will find the film to be of bad taste. I personally found it funny. There were parts of the film I could of taken offence to being a Christian, but it's just a comedian doing what comedians do, taking the mick out of people. I don't think Sacha Baron Cohen is a racist or homophobic, but I do think a lot of the American people in the film came across as racist and homophobic, agreeing with comments made by the comedian. Borat managed to show the true colours of (some) American people. I think these people are a disgrace not Borat!
