Time for the Government to get tough on Hizb ut-Tahrir

Posted by Watlington

This Labour Government is known for talking tough and failing to deliver. Nowhere is this more true than in their dealings with radical Islam. Whilst John Reid and other members of the Cabinet have ratcheted up the rhetoric (see Labour aren't going to roll over and die), they have conspicuously failed to deal with one of the most radical and fanatical Islamic organisations Hizb ut-Tahrir (HuT). This is despite a pledge from Tony Blair that the organisation would in fact be proscribed.

Of course, it is true that HuT has many friends in the Labour Party - Clare Short recently invited them into the House of Commons to meet fellow Parliamentarians. No doubt too that Ken Livingstone, Respect, the Liberal Democrats and others would be happy to see HuT flourish. But the reality is that most moderate people in Westminster and in Whitehall know that something must be done about HuT - and they want something to be done now.

To his credit, the moderate Muslim MP Khalid Mahmood, attacked Clare Short over her invitation and there was a very public spat between the two in the Portcullis House lobby (where MPs and staff have their offices). A number of Conservative MPs are also vexed about HuT and plan to raise the issue in the Commons over coming weeks.

If anyone doubts the extremism of HuT, it is well worth considering the following: The leader of HuT has been imprisoned twice for calling for the death of Jews, the organisation has been banned in Germany for meeting with neo-Nazis and banned in Russia for possessing explosives. Even the National Union of Students has banned HuT for:

supporting terrorism and publishing material that incites racial hatred.
A recent Newsnight item alleged that HuT have been recruiting from local criminal gangs and using these new members to incite extremism in Croydon Mosque. The HuT Croydon Gang were allegedly involved in a plot to firebomb a Croydon synagogue.

HuT have published the worst kind of anti-Semitic conspiracy literature on their website including a statement which said:

And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out....the Jews are a people of slander. They are a treacherous people......
Now it emerges that the Home Office Immigration and Nationality Directorate have employed a senior member of HuT. Imagine if that same person was an officer in the BNP. Rightly there would have been outrage.

It is time for the Government to get to grips with HuT and put its money where its mouth is. HuT should be proscribed now.

Including a statement which said:

"And kill them wherever you find them, and turn them out from where they have turned you out"
That's a quotation. It is Koran 2:191

Of course, the political/media establishment would rather we were not aware of such things, but it is perhaps better if people are. Ignorance is dangerous here. People need to be aware of this:

Instead of relying on inuendo and google to search for anti HT propaganda why don't you come to one of our meetings and talk to us? Is that too much to ask? Are you afraid of debate?
