Iran's clear and present danger
If anyone considers how alarming the current situation is with British military personnel captured in Iran, just imagine how dangerous it would be if Iran had nuclear weapons. Just as Hitler flouted the Versailles treaty in minor ways before he began the Second World War, so too is President Ahmanidejad testing international opinion. If we do nothing, the Iranians will be emboldened to carry out further outrages, including building up their WMD, continuing support for Hezbollah and masterminding the insurgents in Iraq.
The West cannot afford to stand by on this one. Britain must act with military force if necessary to ensure that its armed personnel are freed. At the United Nations, sanction measures should be stepped up and Iran effectively isolated as the pariah it has become. The truth is that the Iranian regime is the new totalitarian regime of the Middle East. Its leaders are set on creating an Islamist master race to the exclusion of all others. Are we going to let history repeat itself or will the free world take preventative action? In a way, the fate of the British military personnel in Iran is intertwined with the future of the free world.
